Biography
Frank Walker
Frank Samuel Walker was born on July 23, 1896, in Hammersmith, Greater London, England, to parents Walter Henry and Emma Walker. After emigrating to Canada, he married Ray Winnifred Rollinson of Stratford on August 10, 1916, and had four children, Lloyd Emmerton, John Donald, Margaret Winifred, and Clarice Emma Walker. He worked at the GTR as a car checker, a clerk, then as a supervisor car serviceman to support his family.
He enlisted at the start of WWII, serving as a Major with the Perth Regiment in the Canadian Army. With this unit he served overseas in England and Europe until his discharge upon demobilization in 1945.
After returning to civil life, Frank moved back to Stratford, where he began working at the CNR. He eventually worked his way up to supervisor. He was a choir master at St. Paul’s Church in Stratford for 27 years. In the 1960s, Frank received the White Cross Medal from Governor General Vanier for his volunteer service with St John’s Ambulance in Ottawa.
He passed in 1979 and is buried at Avondale Cemetery in Stratford.
